Blog - Skiing

Living in the very center of Europe has its perks: a lot of interesting destinations are pretty close by, so we travel a lot. Since that post a month ago, we've been to Budapest twice (thermal baths in winter are awesome!), and almost made it to Austria.

Almost, indeed, which brings me to the topic of this blog post, skiing :) In the very south of the Czech Republic we find the town of Lipno nad Vltavou, famous for its ski resort.

My wife and I had never gone skiing before, so we decided to just go for it! It's quite unusual being barely able to move around at first, but that quickly changed. Well, not too quickly, of course:

Btw., this was before we had any training whatsoever. When our class started, things went a lot better. We practiced on the kiddy slope, learned to stop and keep still on the slope, and started slaloming a bit as well. Great fun :) Next weekend we'll hopefully be ready to go down the big slope. "Break a leg!" :P

P.S.: we'd been wanting to go ice skating as well, to which the lake next to Lipno nad Vltavou lends itself pretty well. Some winters, anyway. Unfortunately, it was completely covered in snow :( Then, as it turns out, there's an ice rink right next to our home. Nice, you'd say. Until you hear speed skates aren't allowed :( Egh… Does anyone have good tips on proper (speed skating) ice rinks/places?
